Chapter 9 Post
Chapter nine is the final chapter in the Great Gatsby. In this chapter Gatsby has his funeral. Gatsby's funeral is very depressing because out of everyone he knows, only three people show up; Nick, the man from the billboard in the city of ashes, and Gatsby's Dad. Not even Daisy shows up and Tom and her move away to Chicago to escape. This event really makes you pity Gatsby. The man devoted almost his whole life to Daisy and in the end she pretends like she never even knew him. Out of the hundreds of people that came to his parties not one comes to his funeral. His own father barley knows who he is and Nick has to help fill him in on Gatsby's life. None of the characters really seem sad over Gatsby's death. Everyone just seems like it is time to move on and forget about him. A major theme is this chapter is don't put all your eggs in one basket. Gatsby devoted almost his entire life to Daisy and in the end she picked her husband over him. When he dies he has nothing to show for his life. All he has is his money that he earned to impress Daisy. He put all his eggs in one basket and the basket dropped and all his eggs broke. I think that if there were a sequel or another chapter to this book. It would just add emphasis how Daisy and Tom run away. She decided to dot he right thing and stick to her husband and her child. Even though she may of loved Gatsby more she was married and with a child and running away with a past affair would not of been a good choice.
